FIRST LINE :: ARC :: I stare into the bathroom mirror and wonder why nobody has told me my left eyelid has grown a little hood.

SUMMARY :: from the Library Journal
Alice Buckle, a 44-year-old from Massachusetts, has been living in the San Francisco Bay Area for years when she realizes she and her husband have drifted apart while advancing their careers (mostly him) and raising their children (mostly her). Dissatisfied, Alice agrees to participate in a marriage study and, as "Wife 22," is paired with "Researcher 101." After weeks of anonymously sharing increasingly intimate details about her marriage, Alice begins to feel that Researcher 101 understands her better than her own husband does. VERDICT Peppered with Facebook updates, email messages, and chat logs, this book is a skillful blend of pop-culture references, acidic humor, and emotional moments. It will take its rightful place in the chick-lit canon alongside Helen Fielding's Bridget Jones's Diary, Anna Maxted's Getting Over It, and Allison Pearson's I Don't Know How She Does It.
MY IMPRESSION SO FAR :: So far, I love Wife 22 to bits and pieces. Melanie Gideon has a provocative writing style that will strike a chord of Bridget Jones fans, but also those of us who love Jessica Darling. When I first glanced at this book, I had prayed that the title was not alluding to polygamy or a sordid Black Widow scenario. Rest assured, it most definitely is not. Melanie Gideon tackles the trickiness of incorporating the online world into literary form - think jemima j - and she does it with such ingenuity that I am getting sucked into Alice and her Wife 22 persona. Instead of providing the survey questions, readers only get the answers that Alice provides, which only sparks curiosity as to what the original question had been. If Alice gets addicted to answering online questionnaires anonymously, I am most definitely getting addicted to reading her answers! Wife 22 is made of WIN, and I hope the finish line is just as amazing as the starting line!
